FOOD!
I love to eat and I love to cook. I travel all over the world to eat and learn about local cuisines. This picture was taken in Bologna, Italy where I traveled with a friend.
This video is taken from one of my favorite TV shows: No Reservations with Anthony Bourdain. All about travel and food. Bourdain is witty and poetic.
Bourdain wrote a book in 2000 called Kitchen Confidential. This book is a tribute to Bourdain's time spent working in kitchens. It is hilarious! Anybody who has ever worked back-of-house should take a look at this article and pick up this read.
The following is the assignment given on 2/15/2012 as part of the chapter presentation for Group 2 which was to be added to this blog assignment:
My activity is going to revlove around figuring out student's learning styles using Teele's test and then applying those learning styles into different aspects of a literature lesson on Under the Feet of Jesus. After having taken the Teele test, students will be grouped in groups of four based on their learning styles revealed through the test.
My classroom will be set up with chairs in a large circle in the middle of the room. Separate working stations will exist around the outside of the circle. Each group will have access to a computer (to share) and various other tools to carry out the assignment.
The partnering level that will be incorporated for this lesson is advanced because the project will be ongoing and designed by the students.
Some students may opt to use the computer to blog, type out a script or research their chosen topics on the internet. All work will be posted to a classroom Wiki at the end of the project.
Three guiding questions that will be considered are the following:
- After having read Under the Feet of Jesus, what can you do to learn more about the lives and situations of illegal immigrants who live in the United States?
- How can you advocate for/against those who are illegal immigrants?
- Take a creative approach and present the issues that arose in the book.
After having created this blog and deciding to use it as the space for my e portfolio, I have found that this template would be very beneficial to use in a classroom.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, it is very easy to set-up, maintain and to use. Students can change their backgrounds throughout the year to reflect holidays, seasons, or changes in style they are experiencing. It is easy to edit for mistakes and to make desired changes.
Secondly, blogs provide a great space for personal opinions and preferences to be stated and for persuasion to take place. Students can read and comment on one anothers posts. I think this is very beneficial in order to prepare students for the job market, collaboration and constructive criticism.
Blogs also provide a great template for portfolios which may be updated, edited and viewed over time. This provides for a great assessment opportunity. Teachers may incorporate partnering in the classroom in a real way through the use of blogs.
One concern I have regarding blogs is that they are public and therefore may expose students to unwanted viewers. This is why it is important to use educational blogs which protect students from this exposure, as was mentioned in the Web 2.0 textbook.
